In keeping up with my quarterly clean-outs in our house, this month I stumbled across brand new toys and unopened baby bottles that we had been storing for a while. I wanted to get a head start on donations this season and make sure these items actually ended up in the right hands and went to various families in need, so I was looking to do some quick local drop-offs.
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll remember I had asked you guys on my Stories if you could recommend some great organizations looking to take new and gently used items for babies, toddlers, and the whole family. There were so many of you that provided me with some helpful resources that I thought I’d pass along the list for those also looking to make some drop-offs.
I’ve compiled a quick list of organizations and groups who do a wonderful job helping families in need all year round:
Children’s Cottage Society (& Brenda’s House) – click here for Most Needed Items + Holiday Wish List. The CCS drop-off location is 845 McDougall Road NE, Calgary, AB. They kindly request that you do not donate used items of any description from December 1st, 2019 to January 15th, 2020. If you’re looking to drop-off at Brenda’s House to help families experiencing homelessness, visit 1921 28th St SW, Calgary, AB.
The Children’s Cottage Society accepted – new toys, gently used toys, new bottles, and baby/toddler boy clothes.
Brenda’s House accepted – pots and pans, home decor, and women and men’s apparel (new and gently worn).
Children’s Hospital Foundation – click here for Gift Wish List + Book Wish List + Kindness Kits. Contact them at 403.955.8818 or email@example.com to arrange a time to deliver your donation. Please deliver donations for the holidays by Friday, December 20th.
Made by Momma – click here for Donations Needed + click here for Drop-Off Times.
NICU Family Care – Follow the NICU Family Care page on Facebook if you’re looking to help out families directly linked to the NICU at Foothills Hospital, Rockyview Hospital, The Children’s Hospital, South Calgary Hospital, and Peter Lougheed Hospital. They are always collecting donations for their NICU bags as well as gift cards.
Ronald McDonald House – click here for the Alberta chapter Wish List. These items include baking supplies, toiletries, crafts and recreation materials, and pick-me-up gifts to help families feel at home. All item donations must be new – they are not accepting second-hand products due to health and safety concerns. If you’re in Calgary they’re located at 111 West Campus Place NW. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 403.240.3000 to arrange a time.
Hopefully this list helps narrow down the search when it comes to what these organizations are in need of and what the best drop-off times are. I know it can be hard when you’re sorting through rooms of your house and you come across a variety of used and brand new items, and you don’t know where and when to donate.
Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try to answer the best I can!
